Use the labelled Pause button below the game for an unambiguous pause or resume. Save here and Load saved are site controls, not keyboard shortcuts. Fullscreen is available from the same row where the browser supports it.
Connect a controller
- Connect your controller to the computer or phone, then press a button so the browser can detect it.
- Start the game and open the emulator toolbar's Control Settings (controller icon).
- Select Player 1 or Player 2, choose the available controller and assign directions, action buttons, Start and Select.
- Close the settings panel and test movement before starting a serious run.
Controller support depends on the browser and device. Two controllers need separate player assignments; pairing them with the operating system alone does not guarantee the game has assigned them correctly.
Playing on a phone
On supported mobile browsers, EmulatorJS shows virtual controls after startup. Use the directional pad and the A/B action controls, with Start and Select for menus. Landscape orientation provides more space between your fingers and the action.
Touch controls are for the local player, not a promise of comfortable two-person play on one phone. For two players, use a larger screen and separate keyboard mappings or connected controllers. Do not cover the base with your thumb while following an enemy.
When an input seems broken
- Z/X do nothing: confirm that a battlefield, not the lettered or stage menu, is showing. Click the game, unpause and close Control Settings.
- Very short taps are missed: this build retains the action-key pulse fix. Test deliberate presses and check for remapped action buttons before assuming the ROM is broken.
- Arrows scroll the page: start the emulator first and focus the game. Directional scrolling is suppressed during play, except in editable controls.
- Several held keys fail in co-op: the keyboard may have a rollover limit. Try a different key pair or use a controller for one player.
- Sound is missing: interact with the page and check the toolbar speaker and device volume.
- A settings panel is open: close it before testing gameplay; the emulator deliberately treats menu input differently.
If the problem persists, record the browser, device, page, TANK option and exact keys used. Never include a password or private account information in a bug report.
