Battle City History

Battle City belongs to Namco's tank-game history. Its familiar 1985 game design pairs shooting with base defence: your own tank can still be alive when a shot into headquarters ends the run. That second responsibility is what makes the game feel different from simply clearing a shooting arena.

The Famicom/NES game is widely associated with fixed-screen stages, simultaneous local two-player play and a construction mode. An emulator reproduces a cartridge's program; it does not make every file bearing the title the same release.

Tank 1990 is used for modified Battle City cartridges distributed in different forms. A title or filename cannot establish a universal feature list. Some modifications change menus, stage access or rules, so claims about one hack should not automatically be applied to another.

The game running here is a Tank 1990 modification with a lettered TANK selection menu. We have not authenticated a specific hack author or release date; “1990” in the title is not treated as verified historical provenance.

An official contemporary example is HAMSTER's Arcade Archives VS. BATTLE CITY, listed by Nintendo as a reissue of Namco's 1985 arcade game. It is a separate product from the NES-format modification hosted in this player; its account features and online scoreboards are not BattleCityPlay features.
